Coaches Trained in Taping Athletes
Doug Cooper, ATC from New West Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery in Kearney, provides outreach service to our school athletes. He came on Thursday, August 2, to teach the coaches a course in taping athletes. For some it was a refresher course, but for others it was a lot of new, valuable information. He has been the athletic trainer at Southwest for 5 years. He visits our school on Tuesday mornings to meet with injured players. He does a wonderful job of evaluating, giving stretches or exercises, referring them to a doctor, and always checks up on their progress. He is at most home football games in case a player gets injured or needs stretched. It is a comfort to see him at games, knowing he will help.
