Letter from the Superintendent - March 2019
Spring is in the air. Perhaps if I say that over and over, things will warm up. It has been particularly poor weather so far heading into the spring season, so I will re-emphasize that children should be dressed appropriately for cold weather when arriving and leaving school. I still see students in shorts and t-shirts coming to school at the 7-12 building in below freezing weather. We can’t dress them before they leave the house, so please check to make sure that your children have appropriate clothing ready to wear during these especially cold days. In addition, make sure that if they are driving to school that they have a cold weather kit with them, just in case they have car troubles on the way to and from school.
We are very proud of our students’ performances in recent art, music and FFA activities. It’s fantastic to see some great successes from our kids in these extracurricular activities. In addition, congratulations to our Academic Decathlon team for participating in state competition once again. Speech is nearing the end of the season, with District and State Competition coming up. State Future Business Leaders of America will take place soon. It’s important that students find a connection to school outside of the daily classes, and obviously that doesn’t mean that must be athletics. There are many activities that anyone can get involved in and find their niche, all the while having fun with other students. There are many lessons outside of the classroom that students learn while participating in these activities. These lesson will stay with a student long after they graduate from high school, and there is a clear connection between success in school and participation in extracurricular activities. Students that are involved do better in school.
Our current seniors have around 40 days of school left in their high school career. Soon they will be walking across the stage to receive their diploma. That’s just the beginning, of course, because of all of the choices that our students have for their post-secondary lives. Many will go on to two or four-year colleges, some will head straight into the workforce, and some are still undecided. Our hope is that our students have taken advantage of the opportunities placed before them and have made wise decisions that will allow them to go onto happy, successful lives and be positive contributors to our communities. As a community, it is all of our jobs to help our students make good choices. It goes beyond the school doors, and we can all play a part in creating a positive, supportive environment for our children. Thanks for your support of our students.
