Letter from the Superintendent - January 2021

If you get an opportunity to take a look at the pre-recorded musical performances that were placed on the school website, please be sure to see what great work the music teachers have done with their students to prepare a safe way for all ages of relatives to see our students. In this strange time that we are living in, nothing seems normal, but it gives us all a joyful feeling when we get to hear our student sing or perform a piece on their instruments.

At this time we are looking at a normal return to school in terms of a starting date for the second semester, January 6th for students. We still would like to be cautious and ask parents to keep their children home if they are ill, and we will continue to monitor their temperatures and ask every student if they are feeling well when they arrive at school. We are currently seeing some good signs in the case of the coronavirus in our area, but we do know how that can change in a matter of days and we will have to take a few steps back. I will be optimistic and hope that we just keep getting to a better and better place.

As I look across the country, I am amazed that there are still places where students have not been able to attend school at all this year. We have been fortunate. The school board has approved the purchase of an additional 145 Chromebooks, so some of our models that are wearing out can be replaced.

We will be keeping a close eye on what guidelines come from the NSAA regarding attendance at winter activities. It is ever changing, and Mr. Roggenkamp will deliver that information as soon as it gets released. Again, we are very fortunate that we have been able to participate in many activities this year.

Have a Wonderful Christmas Break!

R. Todd Porter - Superintendent
