Letter from the Superintendent - August 2017

The school year will soon be upon us and we are looking forward to a lot of new faces in students and staff. The maintenance staff has been working diligently over the summer cleaning, painting, replacing items and giving the buildings an overall check-up to make sure things are ready to go. At this time we are still waiting for the final stage of our track project at the high school building, which is applying the actual rubber coating that goes over the concrete. The company that applies that surface moves from site to site all over the United States and must try to work with what the weather gives them. Ideally they want it hot and dry. We should be able to accommodate them.

The elementary building had some carpet and tile installed and our preschool and daycare rooms are looking great. As you may already be aware, we have added an extra section of preschool so we can offer a three year old class and a four year old class along with morning daycare and afternoon daycare.

Outside at the elementary school we have changed some of the playground equipment that was outdated and repositioned some for safety purposes. Along with a semi load of mulch, the playground area has a new look and feel to it. Our kids need a safe, fun, place to enjoy recess throughout the day.

The new requirement of having the junior class take the ACT has gone through its trial run, and I feel the results for the most part have been good. The initial results of the NeSA tests have been previewed, but official results are not ready for release. In general, I have seen improvement. I always want to see our children do the very best they can, and these results always give us feedback to where we need to refocus our efforts. Parents play a huge part of the academic success of children. It starts with emphasizing the importance of education and just how far it can take you, no matter which field you enter into as an adult. The more knowledge and skills you have, the better off you will be. Knowledge, skills, a good work ethic, and the ability to get along with others is crucial to a successful career and life.

I’m looking forward to a great year this year. I hope you are, too. Working together for the benefit of your children is our utmost concern.
