Coaches Trained in Taping Athletes

Doug Cooper, ATC from New West Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery in Kearney, provides outreach service to our school athletes. He came to Southwest High School on Thursday, August 2, to teach our coaches a course in taping injured athletes. For some it was a refresher course, but others learned a lot of new information. He has been the athletic trainer in our school for 5 years. He comes on Tuesday mornings to visit with injured athletes; he is also at most home football games in case players get hurt, or need to stretch out cramped muscles. Doug does a wonderful job of evaluating students, giving them advice on stretches or exercises, or referring them to a doctor when needed, and he always checks the progress the athlete has made. It is a comfort to see him at ballgames, knowing he is willing to step in and help.
