Letter from the Superintendent - September 2018

As the leaves begin to turn and harvest season approaches, we know that school is in session and our activities are in full force. It is extremely important that all students and parents watch their grades carefully to stay off of the ineligibility list. There are no reasons for surprises. All parents and students can monitor grades daily and know exactly where your child is grade-wise. The other side of this issue is that every child can get help with assignments from many different sources. All teachers are glad to help out and explain assignments again, there are on-line resources available, and certainly the largest problem we seem to have is students just flat out not turning in assignments (many times when they do already have it completed!). Students, therefore, need to self-advocate. If you need help, get it. For goodness sakes, turn your assignments in! In addition, if you have a question for your child’s teacher please email them before things become more difficult to repair.

The new finishing room in the industrial arts department is finished and ready for action. With the growing interest in woodworking, building trades, etc., it is an excellent addition to have this extra room. We have seen tremendous projects come out of this department and now we will have even more. This is a great addition to our very successful agriculture department. Add our excellent family consumer science department and excellent business department and we have some very good vocational choices for our students. Keep in mind they all involve skills in math, communications (writing and speaking), and good work habits. I have heard many great comments about our fine arts programs, as well. There are many choices to build around the core courses such as math, English, social studies, physical education/health and science that can give your child the opportunity for a fantastic education. If the effort is there, the sky is the limit.

We have replaced our less efficient lighting outside with new, more efficient and brighter LED lighting. Soon we will have concrete work done near our football concession stand that will give us better access for those who have difficulty getting around on a rock surface. Maintaining our facilities to make them last and making our grounds safer is an area we will continue to give attention to. Thanks for supporting our students in all that they do. Your support is crucial to their success as students and citizens.

Sincerely,

R. Todd Porter - Superintendent
