State ACADECA
The Southwest Academic Decathlon team competed in the State Competition at the University of Nebraska-Omaha on February 15-16. Students competed in Essay, Speech, Interview, Literature, Economics, Art, Music, Math, Science, and Social Science competitions. Placing at state were: Walter Fitzsimmons, 3rd in Speech and 3rd in Interview (Varsity division); Kaylee Guerrero, 3rd in Fine Arts and 3rd in Soft Science (Scholastic Alternate division); Jadyn Brooks, 3rd in Hard Science (Honors Alternate division). Austin Adam received a gold medal for being the Top Scorer for Southwest. Teams competing in the small school division were Mt. Michael, Brownell-Talbot, Wahoo, Nebraska City Lourdes, Mead, and Southwest. This year’s theme was the 1960’s, the Transformational Decade.
Southwest students participating at State were: (back) Walter Fitzsimmons, Alyse Foster, Austin Adam, Alyssa Springer, Corinne Baker, (front) Julia Holdcroft, Kirklend Nicholson, Jadyn Brooks, Kaylee Guerrero, Kailey Wilcox. Justin Brush was unable to attend because of illness.
