School Nurse Page
Brandy Bird
My name is Brandy Bird, and I am the Nurse Director of Red Willow County Health Department. I will also be eagerly returning to Southwest Public Schools as your School Nurse, along with my colleague Lindsay Vigneur RN.
A little about my career history. I graduated from UNMC-Kearney in 2006 with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After college, I moved to Montana and worked as a labor and delivery, postpartum, newborn nursery, NICU, pediatric, and was a high-risk antepartum flight nurse. In 2012, I moved back to Nebraska to be closer to my family and accepted a job in Grand Island working with the medically intensive, intellectual and developmentally disabled. I relocated to southwest Nebraska in 2016 and started at Red Willow County Health Department part-time as a public health nurse in May 2017. In December 2017, I accepted a second part-time position at Southwest Public Schools as a school nurse until May 2020 when I became the Nurse Director of Red Willow County Health Department.
The best part of being a school nurse is knowing that I am helping kids get through the school day as smoothly as possible. As a parent myself, I always want to have peace of mind that my children are safe and well cared for at school. My goal as a school nurse is to communicate with parents and be an advocate for every child, so their health needs are met at school. I also love getting to know every child and watching them grow through the years. I always want to be available for any questions and concerns, so please feel free to contact me anytime. I also hope this page is a great resource for all our students and their families!
Lindsay Vigneur

I graduated from Southwest Public Schools in 2005, then obtained my Associates of Science in Nursing in 2009. I am also currently working on my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After graduating I spent the first five years of my career working in geriatrics, then moving on to acute care for the last twelve years. I have experience working in Medical/Surgical, Emergency Room, Labor and Delivery, and Post-Partum.
I am excited to work with students and parents and getting to know everyone! I am excited to learn the new skillset of a school nurse. School nurses play a vital role in education and if there is anything I can do to make your child’s year smoother, please reach out!
